Biodiversity is the foundation of life — and its conservation is a shared responsibility.

What is Biodiversity?
Biological Diversity refers to the variety of all living organisms — mammals, birds, reptiles, fishes, insects, plants, fungi and microorganisms — expressed at genetic, species and ecosystem levels. It sustains life on earth.

How the Department Contributes
BSBB advises the State Government, regulates access to biological resources, prepares People's Biodiversity Registers, sets up Biodiversity Management Committees and promotes in-situ and ex-situ conservation across Bihar.

How Citizens Contribute
Every citizen can help by protecting local flora and fauna, planting native trees, avoiding single-use plastics, reporting illegal wildlife trade, and participating in BMC activities and awareness programmes.

How Community Benefits
Healthy biodiversity gives communities clean air and water, fertile soil, pollination, traditional medicines, livelihood opportunities and resilience to climate change — securing our present and future well-being.
About BSBB
Guardians of Bihar's Biological Heritage
Constituted under Section 22 of the Biological Diversity Act, 2002, the Bihar State Biodiversity Board advises the State Government on conservation of biodiversity, sustainable use of its components and equitable sharing of benefits arising from the use of biological resources.
